A childhood friend invited me to special meetings held in the Brockville Civic Auditorium which my entire family attended that night. For me, this was the first time I heard a clear presentation of the Gospel. The evangelist spoke about our sins that put Jesus on the cross. He spoke of God’s love and the forgiveness of sin by believing in Jesus Christ as Saviour. That night, my heart tugged at me, so I left my seat, and stood at the front of the auditorium. I was ushered into a smaller room with others to go through John R. Rice’s tract - “What Must I Do To Be Saved.” It was there, that night, when I was 9 years old that I put my faith in Christ. My family started attending a church after this and my family were all baptized.

I remember going to school and telling my new friends about Jesus. I was picked on and called "Father Morgan." Perhaps, that is why when I went to high school, I for a time backslid, wanting to be accepted by my new set of friends. I am thankful for one of my schoolteachers, Mr. McEwen, who led a student Bible study, often challenging me about my choices. My friend, Kent, also became a Christian after he had a serious horseback riding accident. As I was leaving home for military boot camp, he gave me a Bible and told me he would pray for me. Kent wrote Proverbs 3:5 and 6 on the front cover of this Bible which became my life verse - "Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths."

I was saved at a young age, being raised in a Christian home where family Bible study was done every night and where church attendance was the norm whenever the doors were open. During one family devotion, my Dad asked my sister and I if there was a time when we had asked Christ to be our Saviour. I said yes but my sister stated she was not. My Dad told us he was happy she gave an honest answer. My parents were instrumental in leading me and my sister to the Lord and their prayers have followed me since. As a young child I was baptized near my family home in the LaHave River near Bridgewater.

I was encouraged to be active in our local church from a young age – the first church I attended was in Chelsea where there were no classrooms – no nurseries. From that small country church my Uncle and father felt burdened to start a new work in Oakhill. When I was ten years old, I was playing the piano for our services and as a teen I became a Sunday School teacher. Over the years both Morgan and I have adapted to the needs of where we are located whether it’s been designing young people’s programs, Vacation Bible School, church libraries, sending Ladies Devotions consistently since 2020 to interested ladies to recording the entire hymn book so a small church would have music each Sunday when no piano player was in the church. With each phase of life, each of us are called to adapt to new ministries and new opportunities. This new phase of life may mean ministering in Seniors Homes and more emphasis on visitation.
